    have left their mark on the town. There is a beautiful park with a Norman Castle in it’s grounds, which houses an award winning museum. It is a vibrant place with a cosmopolitan vibe. There are many cafes, bars and restaurants, with a thriving theatre and live music scene. Shopping is good too, as there are numerous independent boutiques alongside the large chains. Work has already started with the regeneration and redevelopment of the town centre with an impressive international arts building in the process of being built in the town.
    There are many beautiful villages surrounding Colchester – Wivenhoe and Rowhedge are on the riverside, great places for Sunday lunch. Picturesque Dedham (Constable country) and the Colne Valley are just a short drive away, as is the coast, where you can find superb local fresh fish and oysters at the The Company Shed on Mersea Island.
    There are many nature reserves and woodlands to be found in the surrounding area. It is also one of the safest places to live in the UK. That’s official!
