| Description |
We have lived in Chebsey House for over 18 years and have brought up our family here: for us it has been and is a happy place in a beautiful setting - so it should be too for the family who acquire it from us. Now that our family has grown up and left home we have arrived at the stage where we must move on.
The village
Church Leigh is the quintessential English village, with its church, pub, playing fields and village shop/post office. There is an excellent first school (Church of England). The nearest town is Uttoxeter (15 minutes by car) but nearby access to the A50 means that Stoke, Burton, Derby, Nottingham, Stafford, the M1 and M6 are all within easy reach. Uttoxeter is best known for its racecourse but it has good schools, shops, leisure centre, pubs and restaurants, cinema and bowling: it also has a railway station with links to Derby and Stoke.
The house
Chebsey House sits at the top of Chebsey Bank in the village of Church Leigh. It has a large but manageable garden with wonderful south facing views over the Staffordshire countryside. The house and its gardens stand in an area just under half an acre. It is not a “run of the mill” house. We believe the oldest part of the building dates back to the 17th century but it has been added to in the 19th and then again in the 20th century. It is in good condition throughout and for many years we have used the same local builder and electrician to keep it in a good state of repair.
